Humanitarian examination and surgery program for children with cleft lip and palate defects

Currently, in Vietnam, the rate of children with cleft lip and palate defects is about 0.1%; if not treated, it will affect aesthetics, speech, eating, and the risk of causing some respiratory diseases. This defect is not life-threatening but causes difficulties in eating, communication, and social integration.

Understanding the difficulties and disadvantages that children and their families have to face, Hai Phong International Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital collaborates with the International Children’s Surgical Foundation (ICSF) from the USA to conduct humanitarian examinations and surgeries for children with cleft lip, palate defects, and other congenital defects. The program will take place from July 17, 2024, to July 22, 2024, at Hai Phong International Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital with the participation of leading international experts from the organization – Prof. Dr. W. Geoff Williams. Children participating in the surgery program will be exempt from all examination and surgery costs.

With the desire to spread more “miracles” to unfortunate children with cleft lip and palate defects, the program not only brings happiness and beautiful smiles to them but also helps children become more confident in life and integrate with their peers.
