<\/p>\nCentral placenta previa combined with placenta accreta is the most severe clinical form of placenta previa, posing a high risk to the lives of both the mother and the fetus. It is often seen in mothers who have had previous cesarean sections, making surgery more difficult and leading to significant blood loss. Recently, Hai Phong International Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital successfully performed surgery on a case where the mother had both of these conditions, ensuring safety and a “healthy mother and baby” outcome.<\/p>\n
In her second pregnancy, 34-year-old N.T.H from An Duong district, Hai Phong, was not overly worried as she had experience from her previous delivery. However, this time was not as smooth as the first. At 30 weeks pregnant, Ms. H visited Hai Phong International Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital for a check-up, where doctors discovered she had both central placenta previa and placenta accreta. This condition is rare and carries a high risk of obstetric complications, even leading to maternal death. Therefore, the doctors at the hospital advised her to undergo strict regular prenatal management. At that moment, Ms. H could not help but feel emotional, saying: “Understanding my worries and anxieties, the doctors reassured and encouraged me a lot, saying that my condition was still under control, gently saying…I don’t worry too much as it will affect the baby; all the doctors, nurses, and staff at the hospital are always ready to accompany me. When I hear those encouraging words, I feel very happy and more confident. I place a lot of trust and hope in the doctors.”<\/p>\n
By the 38th week, when the pregnancy was full term, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Thi Viet Phuong, Director of the Obstetrics Department, had indicated a cesarean section and hysterectomy for patient H due to placenta accreta. This is a dangerous condition and one of the most difficult surgeries in obstetrics.<\/p>\n
After being fully prepared, the surgery for patient H was carried out under the direct supervision of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Thi Viet Phuong, Director of the Obstetrics Department, Dr. Pham Van Do \u2013 Deputy Head of the Prenatal Department, and the anesthesia team led by Dr. Nguyen Do Hung \u2013 Head of the Anesthesia and Resuscitation Department. Due to a history of cesarean delivery, the entire anterior wall of the uterus of the patient was adhered to the surgical scar on the abdominal wall. The surgical team quickly released the adhesions and safely delivered a baby boy weighing 3700 grams. After the delivery, the patient underwent a hysterectomy due to placenta accreta, which partially penetrated the uterine muscle into the bladder. The surgical process was challenging due to the placenta’s attachment to the bladder muscle, causing significant bleeding. After nearly 2 hours…The surgery was a success beyond expectations. The surgical process was quick, and blood loss was well controlled, with the mother only needing two units of blood transfusion. Post-surgery, with the attentive care of the doctors and nurses in the Obstetrics department, both the mother and baby’s health are stable.<\/p>\n
