In children, the prevalence of OSAS is approximately 1-3%, occurring in all age groups, with the highest rates in the 2-8 year age range. If not diagnosed and treated, obstructive sleep apnea syndrome can lead to serious consequences such as cognitive impairment, decreased concentration and memory, and children may develop depression or hyperactivity, affecting their academic performance and quality of life. Recent studies have also indicated that OSAS is an independent risk factor for cardiovascular and neurological diseases such as coronary artery disease, myocardial infarction, and hypertension as children grow older. The main cause of OSAS in children is the hypertrophy of the tonsils and adenoids (VA: Vegetations Adenoides), which narrow or obstruct the upper airway.

Obstructive Sleep Apnea Syndrome (OSAS) is the repeated occurrence of partial or complete obstruction of the upper airway during sleep, leading to reduced breathing or complete cessation of breathing.
