At the transition from autumn to winter, the weather changes erratically, making young children susceptible to health issues, especially respiratory diseases and infectious diseases. Initial symptoms such as fever, cough, runny nose, fatigue, and loss of appetite can sometimes be quite similar, leading parents to easily confuse them with a common cold and overlook the necessary time for a medical examination.

Specialists examining a pediatric patient

According to the Hai Phong Department of Health, in the first 9 months of 2026, the city recorded 3,621 cases of hand, foot, and mouth disease, an increase of 2,223 cases compared to the same period in 2025 – equivalent to more than 2.5 times. Not only hand, foot, and mouth disease, but dengue fever is also trending upward in recent weeks. Specifically, in week 37 (September 7–13), Hai Phong recorded 39 new cases, an increase of 8 cases compared to the previous week, with 12 active outbreaks.
