Successful surgery to manage endometrial polyp for a female patient with menorrhagia and anemia.

Uterine polyps are growths that develop inside the uterine cavity. Uterine polyps most commonly occur in women of childbearing age and perimenopausal women. This is one of the gynecological conditions that can cause infertility in women if not properly managed.

Recently, the International Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital successfully performed surgery to address uterine polyps for a 34-year-old female patient who experienced menorrhagia and anemia.

Ms. N.T.T, 34 years old from Dang Cuong commune, An Duong district, was admitted for examination due to irregular menstruation and menorrhagia lasting 50 days. After an ultrasound, Specialist Doctor I. Nguyen Van Huynh – Deputy Head of the Obstetrics Department diagnosed a large polyp measuring 2x4cm in the patient’s uterine cavity. Typically, small polyps can cause complications such as menorrhagia. With larger polyps, patients often experience severe anemia along with menorrhagia and metrorrhagia, which is one of the causes of infertility. After the examination, Specialist Doctor I. Nguyen Van Huynh invited Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Van Hoc – Head of the Obstetrics Department for a consultation and decided to perform surgery to address the polyp for patient T.

Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Hoc – Head of the Obstetrics Department and Dr. Nguyen Van Huynh – Deputy Head of the Obstetrics Department along with the anesthesia team. During the surgery, the team discovered a large polyp measuring 2x4cm protruding from the vagina, with the base of the polyp located inside the uterine cavity. The team proceeded to completely remove the polyp using the hysteroscopic surgery method. This is a minimally invasive treatment method, resulting in less blood loss, less pain, faster recovery time compared to open surgery, and completely preserving the patient’s reproductive capability, making it the preferred choice among doctors. After 30 minutes of intense focus, utilizing high expertise combined with skilled techniques, the surgery was successful. Post-operative, the patient’s health was stable and she was discharged 24 hours after the surgery.
