Fall Prevention Workshop in the Hospital

According to Professor Syriyama, patient falls are not a new issue but are often overlooked by hospitals. Within the hospital, there are many causes and risk factors that can lead to patient falls, such as environmental factors (ill-fitting footwear, clothing obstructions, furniture, slippery floors…); side effects of medications (causing fatigue, drowsiness, dizziness, balance disorders); and the patient’s existing medical conditions (paralysis, tremors, dizziness, poor vision…). Additionally, she noted that falls in hospitals not only directly affect patient health but also lead to dissatisfaction with service quality, diminishing the reputation of healthcare staff and the medical facility.

Therefore, preventing falls for patients is extremely important and requires planning activities, training for staff, and educating patients and their families about fall prevention in various departments… Only then can the risk of patient falls in hospitals be minimized.

Participants actively discussed, shared knowledge, skills, and experiences, as well as lessons learned from practical work while agreeing on the implementation of plans and methods to prevent falls for patients in the departments. The training session concluded with a high level of understanding and consensus, along with a determination to strive to build a “safe,” “green-clean-beautiful” hospital system!
