According to information from the Ministry of Defense, on February 13, after the incident occurred, the Military Preventive Medicine Institute conducted PCR testing on the officers and soldiers of Regiment 12, Division 3 and found 7 positive samples for meningococcal bacteria, these are the officers and soldiers who had direct contact with soldier Nguyễn Văn Nghiệp.”
Meningococcal disease is an acute bacterial infection caused by Neisseria meningitidis, commonly seen in children and young adults, with the ability to spread rapidly through respiratory droplets. The bacteria are transmitted through direct contact with secretions from the nose and throat of infected individuals or asymptomatic carriers.Meningococcal disease progresses rapidly and can be fatal within 24 hours.Even if they survive, after infection, individuals may suffer severe and permanent consequences such as developmental delays, deafness, paralysis, and limb loss. Anyone can contract the disease, but children under 5 years old have the highest incidence of meningococcal disease.
