A rare surgical case has just been successfully handled by doctors at Hai Phong International Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital – a spinal tumor located from D11 to L3, severely compressing the spinal cord, causing incomplete paralysis of the lower limbs, threatening the child’s mobility and life.
The patient T.T.T.N (2012), residing in Cau Dat, Hai Phong, was admitted with symptoms of weakness in the right leg. Through examination and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), doctors discovered a spinal tumor measuring 12x96mm from D11 to L3.
After a specialized consultation, the patient was indicated for open posterior surgery to completely remove the tumor. The surgery was successfully performed by a pediatric surgical and anesthesia-resuscitation team with the support of modern equipment. Pathological anatomy confirmed this was a lymphangioma – benign.
After surgery and rehabilitation, the movement of the patient’s lower limbs has recovered well, and they have been discharged to return to normal life.
