Multidisciplinary collaboration in the detachment of a twisted ovarian cyst and ovarian preservation for pediatric patients at Hai Phong International Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital
Ovarian cysts are a type of gynecological disease that can occur in individuals of all ages and backgrounds. From prepubescent girls to postmenopausal elderly women, from healthy individuals to pregnant women, anyone can develop ovarian cysts with varying degrees and rates depending on the type of tumor. The prevalence of ovarian cysts is approximately 5 – 10% in the female population. A twisted ovarian cyst, if not surgically treated in time, can undergo necrosis and rupture due to lack of blood supply. This leads to peritonitis, which can result in death.
In just one week, the Pediatric Surgery Department has collaborated with the Obstetrics Department at Hai Phong International Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital to receive and surgically remove twisted ovarian cysts while preserving the ovaries for many young patients.
The multidisciplinary collaboration is a strength of Hai Phong International Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital, helping to detect early and timely manage cases related to pediatric urogenital diseases or cases of congenital anomalies that require early surgical intervention after birth.
The above cases are just two among many cases received and surgically managed by the Pediatric Surgery Department – International Pediatric Center. Through the cases of the patients, experts recommend that parents closely monitor their children’s health and take them for regular check-ups.
